Beach Holiday – pack the essentials

So you have your beach holiday all booked, you are as excited as can be, but what do you pack for it?

Trying to think about everything you need to pack for your beach holiday can be a bit of a nightmare; sure, you can and just pack stuff and wing it, but a bit of thought before you depart could save a headache later on.

Sunscreen / Sun Tan Lotion

If you are on your beach holiday then this little item is going to be your best friend. However much fun you want whilst soaking up the hot sun; you need to be protected to avoid any burn and medical incidents. Carry a very good sunscreen with you, anything that protects against UVA and UVB rays will be needed and any professional would recommend that an SPF 30 or higher is what you need.

Remember that sunscreens should not be used as an alternative to clothing and shade; rather they offer additional, much needed protection.

Don’t forget lip balm with SPF also.

Comfortable Attire

Take loose fitting, comfortable and light clothing with you when you take a beach holiday. Cotton and linen are the best fabrics to use. A clever tip is to take items that can be worn in combination with other items so that you need to pack less items.

Casual Shoes and/or Flip Flops

Light casual shoes (canvas type), sandals or flip-flops are one of the most convenient items of footwear you can use, they need to be lightweight, able to slip on and off easily, comfortable to walk in and be easy to rinse the sand off.

Swim Wear

Again, opt for comfortable swimwear. Ladies, have the fabulous option to be able to team up swimwear with a sarong or sundress, for guys shorts and a simple T shirt is all you need. You really need something that is easy to move around with on the beach, but also something that will allow you to slip quickly and easily into seafront shops, cafes and restaurants.

Beach Towels

We prefer to take two beach towels per person is possible; one to lay on or sit on, and one to dry yourself off. Go for something lightweight; micro-fibre is great, they are compact, soft and absorbent.

Hats
A hat has a dual purpose, not only are they a fashion statement on or off the beach, but they also serve as vital protection from the sun.

If you are in danger of prolonged exposure to the sun’s rays then a hat can make an excellent defence. Light colours can be matched with more items and are more effective against the sun.

Sunglasses

Invest in a good pair of sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun’s UV rays. When on a sunny beach experts recommend users wear sunglasses with larger lenses to protect the eyes from peripheral sunshine.

If you are going to use them in the water, take a strap with you so you don’t lose them. We also recommend that kids wear sunglasses too.

Phone and Accessories

The beach will offer many photo opportunities that you don’t want to miss out on, especially if you are travelling with kids or friends. As well as photo’s, you might want to take video, listen to music or watch some TV, Netflix.com or a movie. Don’t forget to pack a power bank for that al important power boost if you are going to be out for a while.

Medicine kit

There is a small list of some very useful medical stuff that its worth taking onto the beach with you; these include wipes (for cleaning and freshening you up), baby powder (great for helping to clean sand off feet and legs), any prescribed medicines you need to take, insect repellent, a few plasters and some anthisan cream (just in case of stings).

Beach Bag

You’ll have a bit of stuff here to take to the beach, so you’ll need something to carry it all in, this is where a beach bag comes in very handy. Bright colours will make you feel summery and happy, ones with shoulder straps work well as you can more easily carry the bag as well as other stuff.

Take a plastic bag for anything that might get wet/damp.

Separate pockets for electronic devices and a purse/wallet is handy.

Whatever you choose, it needs to be spacious and washable.

Most importantly, have fun and have a great holiday.
