Most holidays invariably mean having to listen to a holiday rep trying to sell you a trip to a nearby town, vineyard or ancient monument.
Let me start by saying that holiday reps serve an important role when you are on holiday, they are there to ensure that you have the best holiday possible, they provide help, advice, assistance and knowledge, but they are also often there to sell you holiday excursions.
Whilst not a big part of their role, they can earn additional income by selling these, either from the holiday company themselves or from attarction, bar and restaurant owners around your destination.
The hard sell of these holiday extra has virtually been eliminted, but it can still sometime happen.
Our advice is to listen to what the rep has to say, gain all of the information at these meetings about the extra excursions, but dn't feel pressured into going on them. If it's something you really want to do, then go ahead, book it.
If you want time to think about it, then do so.
Remember that these tripsdo tend to be over-priced and also usually end up with you having a meal at a restaurant that have paid to get you there so that they can make money on selling you more food and drink.
If you are interested in learning a little more about the country you are staying in and want to see more sights then you can often do much better yourself by seeking our local bus companies or trips from other agents nearby.
If you have done your research then there is no reason why you can’t make your own way to these sights yourself.
Organised visits rarely have guided tours of where they are taking you, so you will not miss out on anything.
We have even befriended taxi drivers before who will if needed take you out and show you the areas still at a fraction of the cost.
By doing it all yourself you will spend very little and you can take even take your own lunch and snacks to save even more money.
